Award/Championship | Description |
---|---|
Overall (Combined) | Inaugurated in 2022, the Overall Championship awards the top points getters in a combined ranking. Top Guns and Hot Shots from both Kelowna and Vernon events are combined into a single ranking with the top three receiving awards.* All drivers are eligible for the Overall Championship. |
Hot Shot | Established in 2019, the Hot Shot Championship is awarded to the top three competitors based on total points accumulated.* Separate championships are held at the Kelowna and Vernon venues. Winning a season’s Hot Shot Championship at either venue permanently elevates the first place winner to the Top Gun group starting with the next season. Top Guns are excluded from participating in the Hot Shot Championship. |
Top Gun | Established in 2019, the Top Gun Championship is awarded to the top three Top Gun competitors based on total points accumulated.* Separate championships occur at the Kelowna and Vernon venues. To be eligible to compete in the Top Gun Championship, you must have placed first in a previous Hot Shot Championship, although some exceptions have been granted in the past. |
Eliminator | The Eliminator champion is the competitor placing first at the annual OPDA Okanagan Autocross Vernon Eliminator competition held over two days on a September weekend. Competitors spend three half-days qualifying for the Sunday afternoon elimination competition where a single winner is determined in head-to-head competition. |
Rookie of the Year | Inaugurated in 2021, the Rookie of the Year trophy is awarded to the novice demonstrating exceptional competitive skills along with a strong volunteer spirit and good character. |
Most Cones | Most Cones is awarded based on the greatest number of cone penalties applied to a competitor during the course of a season. Although awarded tongue-in-cheek, recipients of the award have historically been among the best competitors in the club. |
* | A competitor’s total championship points are taken from the driver’s top results to a maximum of 70-75% of events scheduled. Thus if there are 14 events in a championship season and a competitor attends all 14, only the top 10 results will be used to calculate their championship standing. Note that the number of events included in the season championship can change throughout the season based on event cancellations or additions. |

Topgun List
The Topgun and Hotshot programs began in the 2019 season. While much of the historical championship record for Okanagan Autocross was lost in 2019, the OPDA does have a record of drivers that have competed as a Topgun either by winning a season’s Hotshot Championship or by virtue of their historical competitive record at the time of establishment of the Topgun/Hotshot program.
